Kageō Katana Sword: design and finishes
The name Kageō (影王) means King of Shadows. This is because “kage” (影) symbolizes shadow and “ō” (王) refers to king. This name suggests a sword intended for those who reign in darkness, masters of secret techniques and guardians of ancestral mysteries.
Its T10 steel blade reveals an authentic midare hamon with dancing flame patterns, created by differential tempering that gives the steel its exceptional cutting and resistance properties. The rounded brass tsuba features a finely chiseled dragon, a symbol of Eastern power and wisdom, while the matching fuchi and kashira bear engravings evoking waves and wind, natural elements representing perpetual motion and invisible force. The handle combines authentic stingray skin (samegawa) and solid wood, wrapped in purple braiding (tsuka-ito) that contrasts elegantly with the golden menuki depicting dragons. The orange scabbard with yellow and blue grainy highlights creates a bold color scheme, complemented by a multicolored orange, green, purple, and white sageo that adds a touch of refinement to the ensemble.
