The Yubashiri Katana Sword in One Piece

Origin of the “Yubashiri” katana sword in the One Piece anime

In the One Piece universe, the Yubashiri katana sword is one of the weapons carried for a while by Zoro before being rusted by Shû at Enies Lobby and replaced by the Shusui sword. Its Japanese name, 雪走, literally translates as “Snow Run“. This exceptional weapon is one of fifty top-quality blades, classified in the Ryo Wazamono category. Yubashiri was originally owned by Ippon Matsu, before falling into the hands of the redoubtable Zoro Roronoa, a member of the Straw Hat Pirates.

History and Role of Yubashiri sword in the Series

Yubashiri sword, with its sober but striking appearance, is black with a yellow dot on the handle. Yubashiri’s blade is standard, but its lightness and strength make it a katana sword of the highest quality. Zoro immediately recognized its value, praising its ease of use and perfect balance. This weapon was a key element in Zoro’s three-bladed techniques, enabling him to execute fast, precise movements while retaining formidable cutting power.

Unfortunately, Yubashiri’s story is marked by a tragic destiny. During the epic confrontation between the Straw Hat Pirates and the Marine commanders at Enies Lobby, Yubashiri was rusted by Shû, a Marine with the power of Sabi Sabi no Mi, a demon fruit that creates rust. Despite this unfortunate incident, Yubashiri continued to be used until Zoro replaced it with the Shusui, another exceptional katana sword he obtained after his victory over Ryuma at Thriller Bark.

Forging and quality

Although Yubashiri’s exact rank, his title of Ryo Wazamono testifies to his exceptional quality among renowned swords in the One Piece universe. His forge, though unspecified, was the birthplace of this exceptional blade, capable of slicing through obstacles with deadly grace.

Yubashiri’s abilities and owners

Yubashiri’s unique properties are not limited to its exceptional blade. Its lightness enables its user, in this case Zoro, to execute swift, agile movements while retaining impressive cutting strength. In Zoro’s capable hands, Yubashiri was used to overcome various obstacles and enemies throughout the adventure.

Yubashiri has had several owners over the course of its existence, starting with Ippon Matsu before passing into the hands of Zoro Roronoa.
