Zoro’s Enma Sword in One Piece

Origin of the Enma sword in the One Piece anime

The Enma katana sword plays a central role in the epic universe of the One Piece anime, created by Eiichiro Oda. It was forged by legendary swordsmith Shimotsuki Kozaburo, more than fifty years before the events of the present day. Once owned by Kozuki Oden, this katana sword is an “Ô Wazamono”, one of the world’s 21 Great Grade Blades. Combined with another Meito named Ame no Habakiri, Enma earned its reputation by inflicting the only known scars on the imposing bodies of Kaido or Kaidou.

Enma sword’s history and role in the series

Enma sword’s history and role in the series Over the years, Enma has changed owners, passing from the hands of Shimotsuki Kozaburo to Kozuki Oden, then to his daughter Kozuki Hiyori. Finally, it was passed on to Roronoa Zoro, one of the story’s protagonists. This katana sword was used by Oden in a two-blade style, the “Oden two-sword style”, alongside Ame no Habakiri, to accomplish incredible exploits. Notably, he managed to severely wound Kaido, a Yonko (four emperor), a remarkable accomplishment in the One Piece universe. Zoro was also able to slice through the beast’s scales and free his captain, demonstrating the true value of this legendary sword.

Enma sword’s forging and blade quality

Enma is a masterpiece forged by Shimotsuki Kozaburo. It is considered one of the finest swords in the world, ranked among the Ô Wazamono. Handling it requires a rare mastery of weapons haki. When used correctly, Enma can “slice through the underworld”, according to Tenguyama Hitetsu. It has a unique ability to absorb and project its user’s “Ryuo”, making it exceptionally powerful, but also difficult to wield. Only a skilled swordsman can fully exploit its potential.

Enma sword’s abilities and current owners

Under Zoro’s mastery, Enma demonstrated his power during the assault on Onigashima by using his “Rengoku Onigiri”, showing his raw potential even if he hadn’t yet fully mastered it. On its first use, it sliced a mountain in two.

How did Zoro get Enma?

Zoro obtained the Enma katana sword through an exchange with Kozuki Hiyori, Kozuki Oden’s daughter. Hiyori gave Zoro Enma in exchange for the Shusui katana. This precious sword had previously belonged to Zoro. The Enma sword was forged by the famous swordsmith Shimotsuki Kozaburo, a renowned craftsman in the One Piece universe, also known for forging the Wadō Ichimonji sword. Thanks to this exchange, Zoro has become the proud owner of the powerful and legendary Enma katana sword.
