Zoro Swords One Piece

While everyone knows Roronoa Zoro as Monkey D.Luffy’s right-hand man, he’s also renowned for his swordsmanship skills. Zoro doesn’t just use one sword, or even two, he fights with three katana swords, one in each hand and the third in his teeth.

Throughout his adventure with the Straw Hat Pirates, Zoro will own a number of different swords, acquired in a variety of ways. All these swords are available on KatanaEmpire.

The history of Zoro’s swords

Roronoa Zoro is the only swordsman in One Piece to wield three swords at once, with a technique he created Santôryû (Lord of the Underworld). Before possessing swords of incredible power, the swordsman of the Straw Hat Pirates held the swords of Johnny and Yosaku, his two companions when he was a pirate hunter, and the sword of his childhood friend, Kuina. Two of his swords were broken by Mihawk during their first confrontation, leaving a scar on Zoro’s chest. The only sword to withstand the attack was his friend’s, the Wadô Ichimonji, and he never left it. Zoro went on to acquire many other swords, including Sandai Kitetsu, Yubashiri, Shusui and Enma. Here’s the story behind each of Zoro’s swords in One Piece:

Wadô Ichimonji: Zoro’s first sword

With its white hilt and round guard, this sword is fitted with an intensely black blade. As strong as it is durable, it is Zoro’s most powerful katana sword and will never leave his side.

Forged by Shimotsuji Kozaburo, the same swordsmith who crafted Enma, Wadô Ichimonji is one of the 21 Ô Wazamono swords, otherwise known as the Great Grade Blades.

Originally, this katana belonged to Kuina, a childhood friend of Zoro. After her death, he asked his master Kôshiro to retrieve the sword, who did not refuse.

When we think of Roronoa Zoro, we can’t help but think of his technique of holding his third sword in his mouth, and Wadô Ichimonji is that mythical sword he holds between his teeth when he fights.

This sword is much coveted by Tashigi, the female naval captain whose superior is Smoker, and who, according to Zoro, bears a striking resemblance to her deceased childhood friend Kuina. According to Tashigi, a pirate should never own such a sword.

Sandai Kitetsu: Zoro’s cursed sword

This katana has a distinctive look, with a guard in the shape of a rounded cross and a blade with a wave like pattern, which appears when the sword is made.

It is one of the 50 Skillful Grade Blades, known as the Ryo Wazamono.

Forged by Tenguyama Hitetsu, real name Kozuki Sukiyaki, the former Shogun of the Land of Wa, hiding under this false identity and this new profession.

It was in Loguetown that Zoro got this sword, along with his third Yubashiri sword. It was given to him by the weapon dealer Ippon-Matsu, who recognized Zoro’s bravery, as this blade is one of the three cursed swords. Legend has it that these swords cause the death of their owner. Zoro then took the gamble of throwing the Sandai Kitetsu into the air and stretched out his arm to see if it would cut his arm, but fortunately it didn’t. Ippon-Matsu had no choice but to give the katana sword to Zoro.

Yubashiri: Zoro’s rusty sword

This black-bladed sword has a guard in the shape of a square cross. It is similar to the katana sword of the Japanese Imperial Army, the Gunto. The Yubashiri‘s blade is as light as it is strong, giving it great speed.

It is one of the 50 Skillful Grade Blades, the Ryo Wazamono.

Zoro obtained this katana sword free of charge in Loguetown, along with the Sandai Kitetsu cursed sword. He used it for his three-blade technique until Shû, a marine who had eaten the demon fruit Sabi Sabi No Mi, rusted it by touching it in Enies Lobby.

It will be replaced by the legendary Shusui at the end of the Thriller Bark arc.

Shusui: Zoro’s Katana

It’s the only blade to have two different skins, the one in the manga not being the same as in the anime. In the manga, the Shusui sword has a black blade and a white wave pattern. In the anime, the blade is purple or black, and the wave pattern is red. Its guard is shaped like an eight-petal flower, and its scabbard is black with red circles divided into three.

The sword is one of the 21 Ô Wazamono, the Great Grade Blades, making it one of the 33 best swords in One Piece. It is considered a national treasure in the Land of Wa. Its owner was the legendary samurai Ryuma, who was buried with his katana sword before being looted by Gecko Moria, holder of the demon fruit controlling the shadows.

Zoro obtained this katana after defeating Ryuma’s zombie, which came back to life after receiving the shadow of the Straw Hat Pirates singer, Brook. At first, Zoro had difficulty handling the sword, but following his training with Mihawk, he mastered the sword’s power. He cut a ship in half with it and even parried a punch from Oz with it.

Shusui is highly coveted and has been taken from Zoro several times. Kinemon, leader of the Nine Red Scabbards, wanted to fight Zoro for it; a dwarf stole it from him; Zoro was accused of murder in the Flower Capital so that a magistrate could get his hands on the sword; finally, Gyukimaru, a shapeshifting fox, stole it from him and brought it back to the tomb of its first owner, Ryuma.

It was at this point that Zoro received Enma in exchange from Kozuki Oden’s daughter, Kozuki Hiyori, who wanted Shusui to remain on Ryuma’s grave.

Enma: Zoro’s purple sword

The black blade of the Enma sword, with its purple wave pattern, goes perfectly with the purple scabbard decorated with flowers and the cloverleaf-shaped guard.

Forged by Shimotsuki Kozaburo, who also forged Wadô Ichimonji, this katana is one of the 21 Ô Wazamono, one of the finest swords in the world.

It was given to Zoro by Kozuki Hiyori in exchange for the Shusui that had just been stolen from him and returned to Ryuma’s tomb.

Zoro claims it is a sword with tremendous cutting power, as it is the only weapon known to have wounded Kaidou, captain of the Hundred Beast Pirates, when Hiyori’s father Oden held it. Roronoa Zoro even sliced through a cliff with it while trying to attack a tree.

This unique blade draws on its wearer’s Haki and releases it at the moment of attack, delivering incredible power. Zoro’s mastery of Haki makes him one of the few swordsmen who can do what he wants with his sword.

What are Zoro’s 3 current katana swords?

Wado Ichimonji, his childhood friend Kuina’s sword, Enma, Oden’s most powerful sword with which he slices Kaidou and Sandai Kitetsu, the cursed sword he got for free in Loguetown by throwing it in the air to see if it slices his arm.

How are Zoro’s swords called?

List of Zoro’s 7 swords:

  • Wadô Ichimonji, inherited from his deceased friend Kuina, to whom he promised to become the best swordsman in the world.
  • Johnny and Yosaku swords: Katana of his former pirate-hunting sidekicks, destroyed during the first clash with Mihawk.
  • Sandai Kitetsu cursed sword, obtained free of charge in Loguetown.
  • Yubashiri, obtained in Loguetown and destroyed by the fruit of the rust demon.
  • Shusui sword of Ryuma, treasure of the Wa country, later exchanged for Emna.
  • Enma, Oden’s sword used to wound Kaido, the strongest creature in the world.

What’s Zoro’s most powerful sword?

Zoro’s best sword is probably the Wado Ichimonji he holds in his mouth, which is extremely powerful, durable and very sharp. But in sheer power, Enma and its ability to suck in and release Zoro’s haki make it an even more devastating weapon.
