Kiba Katana Sword: design and finishes
The name Kiba (騎馬) directly evokes equestrian art and the nobility of the samurai horseman. This Japanese term combines “ki” (騎), which means to ride a horse, and “ba” (馬), the horse itself. This name reveals the very essence of this blade: it embodies the spirit of the mounted warrior, a symbol of mobility, power, and high social status in feudal Japan. The horseman represented the military elite, capable of mastering both the art of the sword and that of horsemanship.
Its T10 steel blade has a polished surface that reveals a magnificent midare hamon with natural undulations, evidence of authentic differential tempering. The rounded copper tsuba features delicate engravings of horses that echo the name of the weapon. The handle combines authentic stingray skin with green diamond-pattern braiding, while the black menuki add an elegant simplicity. The hammered copper fuchi and kashira reproduce equestrian motifs with remarkable craftsmanship. The grainy lacquered wooden scabbard subtly blends black and green, complemented by a genuine horn koiguchi and a green sageo that unifies the whole.
