Kurogane Katana Sword: design and finishes
The name Kurogane evokes the harmonious fusion between the raw strength of black iron (黒) and the preciousness of gold (金). This traditional Japanese name symbolizes the perfect balance between power and refinement, between the robustness of the warrior and the elegance of the craftsman.
Its T10 steel blade has a mirror-polished surface that reveals an authentic choji hamon with graceful undulations, the result of controlled differential tempering. This serpentine temper line is a testament to ancestral craftsmanship and gives each katana a unique signature. The rounded tsuba in gilded copper features meticulous hammering and engraving, complemented by a kozuka-hitsu that enhances its functionality. The handle combines authentic stingray skin with black diamond-pattern braiding, while the menuki feature finely chiseled golden dragons. The fuchi and kashira in gilded copper harmonize perfectly, the latter adorned with the traditional symbol of waves. The black lacquered wooden scabbard is adorned with subtle golden filaments, creating a striking contrast with the koiguchi in genuine horn.
