Kurozakura Katana Sword: design and finishes
The name Kurozakura evokes the dark and mysterious beauty of the black cherry tree, a symbol of eternal rebirth in Japanese tradition. This name combines the depth of black (kuro) with the fleeting delicacy of the cherry blossom (sakura).
Its manganese steel blade features orange and steel hues that blend harmoniously with the midare gunome hamon, creating irregular waves along the cutting edge. The round black tsuba offers elegant protection, while the brass habaki engraved with floral motifs echoes the cherry blossom theme. The handle reveals a faux red stingray skin covered with black diamond-shaped braiding (tsuka-ito), adorned with menuki representing chiseled black dragons. The fuchi and kashira in polished black alloy complete this dark harmony. The pink and black lacquered wooden scabbard (saya) with a brushed effect perfectly captures the essence of the black cherry tree, enhanced by black ends and a matching sageo.
