Ryū no Yaiba Katana Sword: design and finishes
The name Ryū no Yaiba (竜の刃) immediately evokes the legendary power of the dragon in Japanese culture. This “Dragon Blade” embodies the mystical essence of these celestial creatures, symbols of strength, wisdom, and divine protection. The kanji 竜 (ryū) represents the ascending dragon, while 刃 (yaiba) refers to the sharp edge of the blade, creating a perfect harmony between spirituality and martial functionality.
Its manganese steel blade features an engraved dragon that elegantly winds its way along the surface, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of our artisans. The rounded crossguard tsuba, crafted from a gilded and black alloy, features a finely chiseled dragon encircling the guard, creating a harmonious transition to the blade. The handle (tsuka) combines traditional faux white stingray skin with noble wood, while the brown and black braiding (tsuka-ito) forms diamond patterns that provide a secure and aesthetic grip. The gold menuki complete the whole with refinement. The black lacquered wooden scabbard (saya) features a gold dragon that echoes the engraving on the blade, unifying the overall aesthetic of this exceptional piece.
