Seigetsu Katana Sword: design and finishes
The name Seigetsu evokes the beauty of the blue moon, a rare phenomenon that captivates observers of the night sky. This name combines “sei” (青), symbolizing the deep blue of the night, and “getsu” (月), representing the moon in its celestial splendor. This katana thus embodies nocturnal serenity and lunar wisdom, essential qualities of the warrior who finds strength in contemplation and harmony with natural cycles.
Its T10 steel blade reveals an authentic midare hamon with dancing flames, created by traditional differential tempering, which gives the steel its legendary strength. The rounded brass tsuba features a finely chiseled dragon, a symbol of Eastern power and wisdom. The handle harmoniously combines authentic stingray skin and hardwood, wrapped in black diamond-patterned braiding that ensures a firm and elegant grip. The golden menuki represent dragons, while the fuchi echoes this dragon motif and the kashira features symbols of waves and wind. The blue scabbard with orange grainy highlights evokes the changing hues of the twilight sky, complemented by a genuine horn koiguchi and a two-tone blue and black sageo.
