Shōri Katana Sword: design and finishes
The Shōri 勝利 katana sword also known as Victory, is forged from T10 steel with a magnificent cabbage leaf-shaped hamon obtained by differential clay tempering. Its blade is hand-polished and then sharpened on request for optimum, long-lasting sharpness. The black-lacquered wooden scabbard is adorned with thick brown Sageo, while the Tsuka, wrapped in genuine white stingray skin, is covered with brown braided ito in a diamond pattern. The white and gold dragonfly-shaped menuki add a touch of elegance and lightness. The round, gold- and silver-plated tsuba features dragonfly and flower motifs, blending harmoniously with the matching Fuchi and Kashira. The brass Habaki completes this majestic set. The dragonfly was highly prized in samurai times as it symbolized victory, hence the name of this katana “勝利 Shōri”.
