Kinmokusei Katana Sword: Design and finishes
The name Kinmokusei evokes golden osmanthus, a precious shrub whose fragrant flowers herald the arrival of autumn in Japan. This name also symbolises fleeting beauty and discreet nobility, qualities that can be found in every detail of this exceptional katana with its golden and orange hues.
Its Damascus steel blade reveals undulating patterns reminiscent of osmanthus petals carried by the autumn wind, while the authentic hamon draws a temper line with iridescent reflections. The rounded cross-shaped Tsuba, crafted from dark copper and hammered with dots, evokes the intertwined branches of the sacred shrub. The handle combines authentic stingray skin and hardwood, wrapped in brown Tsuka-ITO braiding with a diamond pattern that harmonises perfectly with the Menuki representing a silver dragon. The Fuchi, decorated with traditional Japanese symbols, and the gilded copper Kashira complete the whole, while the orange-toned lacquered scabbard directly evokes the autumnal hues of the osmanthus.
This katana sword combines functionality and aesthetics with a remarkable balance, offering a comfortable grip and precise cutting. The hammered brass habaki ensures a perfect fit in the scabbard, guaranteeing the safety and durability of the whole. This sword is an excellent investment for collectors and practitioners alike, embodying the essence of traditional Japanese craftsmanship and the poetry of the Japanese seasons.
