Tonbo Katana Sword: design and finishes
The Tonbo katana sword (トンボ) also known as the Dragonfly is characterized by its T10 steel blade, renowned for its strength and beauty. Its hamon, obtained by differential clay tempering, features a unique Midare pattern. The painted wooden saya is adorned with red roses and autumnal orange leaves, reflecting the ephemeral beauty of nature. The handle, wrapped in real white ray skin and woven with black ito in a diamond pattern, offers an exceptional grip. The menuki, representing black dragonflies, symbolized courage and victory in samurai times. The rectangular brass guard is beautifully engraved with dragonflies, matched with a brass Fuchi and Kashira, giving the katana a noble, refined look. The engraved brass Habaki dotted in black completes the look.
