Tsukihana Katana Sword: design and finishes
The name Tsukihana combines the kanji characters for moon (月) and flower or brilliance (華), creating a visual poem that evokes the fleeting beauty of moonlight reflecting off the petals of a night-blooming flower. This metaphor captures the very essence of this katana: a silent beauty that reveals its splendor in the darkness, just as the moon discreetly illuminates the sleeping world.
Its T10 steel blade features a magnificent Notare hamon, whose undulations are reminiscent of hills bathed in moonlight. This differential tempering creates harmonious waves along the cutting edge, demonstrating the technical mastery of our blacksmiths. The lotus-shaped tsuba, made of gold and black copper, features a finely engraved dragon diving underwater. The handle reveals authentic stingray skin covered with black diamond-patterned braiding, while the menuki represent silver dragons that seem to dance under the moon. The fuchi, adorned with a coiled dragon, and the kashira, carved in the shape of a dragon’s head, complete this dragon theme. The black lacquered wooden scabbard, enhanced with genuine horn elements at the koiguchi, evokes the depth of a starry night.
